Journalist - Internship - Latin Lawyer

Job description

Law Business Research Ltd is looking for interns to join Latin Lawyer in our Notting Hill (London) office.

Latin Lawyer is the definitive information resource for business law in Latin America. Our team of journalists provide news and analysis of deals and cases, as well as legal and policy developments across the region. Alongside this, we compile surveys, league tables, country profiles, interviews and roundtable discussions that allow us to provide cutting edge analysis of the region’s legal market.

As interns, you will work on Latin Lawyer to support our journalists in all these endeavours; if successful during the internship and based on the business need, there is opportunity for the role to become permanent. The role will also entail organizing and analysing data for stories, and all applicants will be expected to use Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets daily.

The role is ideal for a journalism or communications student, and is structured to be flexible to fit around ongoing studies. The role will be data heavy, so demonstration of comfort using numbers, data entry and Excel is advantageous.

We would want someone to offer 15-20 hours a week during term time and 40 hours a week outside of term time. This role will pay £10 per hour.

Your Role:

  • Daily review of news sources, including court dockets, and prioritization of leads
  • Writing short summaries of developments in ongoing cases and stories for publication
  • Assisting on large-scale research projects
  • Attending court and government hearings and reporting on the outcome
  • Other tasks to support GCR's editorial output, as directed by the editor

  • Some administrative experience
  • Comfortable using data sheets and excel
  • Studying, or just finished studying, for a writing-based university degree
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Legal knowledge and writing experience is advantageous but not essential.
